Light Bulb Jokes
- How many Keepers does it take to keep the Light Bulb
Joke List?
- Quite a few, but only one at a time, please.
I am collecting light bulb jokes, in a long tradition of LBJ
collecting. You can see some past history (including a bit about
me, the current KotLBJL)
here, but I've trimmed much from this
page to load things up faster.
This page currently sits somewhere, but that could change. Unfortunately,
bigfoot.com has gone to a pay model and no longer allows updating the
web forwarding on their basic accounts, so the site to which you've
been sent may disappear. Instead, change your bookmarks to point to
http://bulbs.justpickone.org/
(where it really sits now, and will for as long as I'm the KotLBJL)
while I look into how to make a permanent URL that doesn't depend on me.
If you have one you don't find here (see below), please
send it to me
for inclusion.
On this page I'll present only a few of my personal favorites,
because the list is now so very long (yay!). You can use the
search engine
to find jokes by keyword, length
(short
or
long),
and even see ones that are
new
(though I haven't gotten any new ones in a while).
Features
This collection of light bulb jokes has become quite large, which
can lead to difficulties getting the whole collection in one shot.
Now that the list is available through the web instead of only
through news postings and ftp sites, there are certain additional
features available.
Search Engine
Rather than having to load them all right here, you can use the
search engine
to search through the list, or even get
all of the
jokes at once if you really want to. (You might find it easier, though,
to simply download the gzipped version of the master file in
HTML or text
format instead). The source code for the search engine is
here for the interested.
Random Joke
- How many Random Light Bulb Joke readers does it take to
change a light bulb?
- None. The just wait for a new one to be loaded automatically.
A simple
perl script
randomly
picks a joke
from the collection. If you run a browser that supports refreshing,
the next joke will be loaded automatically.
File Statistics
- How many statisticians does it take to change a light bulb?
-
- This should be determined using a nonparametric procedure,
since statisticians are not normal.
- One -- plus or minus three (small sample size).
I'll be writing up a script that will report various statistics about
the joke base including the number of jokes (all, long, short, new)
and perhaps the most common search keywords.

How many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?

Two. One to hold the giraffe and the other to fill the
bathtub with brightly colored machine tools.
